Oliver Bühler is is particularly interested in the challenging growth conditions of urban trees. His ambition as a researcher is to develop tools improving establishment rates and vitality of road side trees. The main research interest is the delicate water balance of urban trees. During the last years, Oliver Bühler has worked with the dispersion of pests and diseases in Europe, investigated irrigation effects on street trees and contributed to an evaluation of street tree establishment concepts. Interactions between green infrastructure and urban climate receive increasing attention, and Oliver has addressed this issue working with selection of tree species and cultivars growing in a changing climate, but also investigating the effects of green infrastructure on the urban heat island in Copenhagen. In addition to his research, Oliver Bühler teaches the 15 ECTS course 'Plants and the urban climate', part of the Urban Landscapeengineer program offered by Forest & Landscape. Oliver takes care of the Urban Tree Arboretum , a collection of trees for use in urban areas. Oliver Bühler has concluded studies at LIFE as MSc (Horticulture). He has a degree of Dipl.Ing. Horticulture (FH) from the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, Germany and a background as professional nursery gardener.
